Health TechQuity Journal Club

This year, the Health TechQuity Journal Club scaffolds its 2026–27 schedule around the TechQuity at Every Life Stage theme of the Health TechQuity 2027 Conference (March 3–4, 2027, SJSU). Sessions cycle through the conference's four life-stage breakouts (early life, adolescence/emerging adulthood, midlife, later life) a few times.  Each session will deliberately attend to the technology itself, but will add discussion about consent, individual autonomy, and surveillance. Facilitators are a mix of conference-adjacent speakers (to build relationships ahead of March) and standalone article-author recruitment, like last year's model.

Goal & Aims

Build a community of scholarly practice and research productivity focused on leveraging emerging technologies to achieve health equity.

  • Familiarize SJSU scholars with critical concepts and issues at the intersection of health equity and technological development.
  • Facilitate opportunities for scholars across disciplines to convene.
  • Enable ideation of possible research projects and transdisciplinary collaboration.

Participation Expectations

  • Transparent — adjust your profile to reflect your preferred name and pronouns.
  • Respect — listen attentively, speak plainly, recognize our diverse backgrounds, experience, and training.
  • Engage — probing and challenging are welcome; personal attacks are not.
  • Focus — avoid multitasking, mute other devices, and keep your hands off the keyboard (unless using chat).
  • Prepare — read the identified content in advance and come with questions, thoughts, or concerns.
  • Smile — bonus points to everyone who turns their camera on.
